About Rate the Plate

Our Story

Why Rate the Plate exists

Rate the Plate was born from a real problem Arya saw firsthand. Her family owns La Moo Creamery, a beloved, family-run ice cream shop right here in Arlington. Although, like so many small businesses, it often got overlooked simply because people didn't know it was locally owned.

Large chains dominate search results and review platforms, pushing family businesses into the background. Arya wanted to change that. She teamed up with William Petty to build a platform that gives power back to small businesses and helps the Arlington community discover the people and the passion behind every meal.

The inspiration: La Moo Creamery

La Moo Creamery is a family-owned creamery in Arlington, Virginia. It represents exactly the kind of business Rate the Plate champions: independently run, community-rooted, and full of heart. When you support La Moo, you're supporting a family, not a corporation.

Arya Chudiwale

CEO & Lead Developer

Arya is a student at Arlington's own Washington Liberty High School and the daughter behind La Moo Creamery. Watching her family's business struggle to stand out in an algorithm-driven world inspired her to build something better: a platform where Arlington's local restaurants get the visibility they deserve. She architected the back-end systems powering Rate the Plate, from the review engine and business profiles to the comparison tools that help Arlington diners make confident, community-informed choices.
